Baby Cakes

ImageDear Olive Girl,

Tomorrow is your first birthday! I have been so eager to share new pictures here but the photos we ordered are still processing. I’ll post them soon! 12 months ago today your Dad thought it was a good idea to pack the car with our overnight things as you were due in a couple weeks. Then we went out for Record Store Day, one of the few times we have ever been to a record store and didn’t buy a thing. I remember getting winded as I waddled through the indie rock aisle, feeling too big for my britches. After that we came home and BBQ’d some hotdogs or in my case “not” dogs as your Dad refers to my tofu pups. Not what I imagined my last meal would be before becoming a mama. Then we turned in early and I woke up to my water breaking around 2 am. The time between 2 am and 5:35 pm was a blur. Next thing I knew we were at home staring at your sweet little face in wonder for days.

Now you’re the one who is waddling around. You started taking more than just a few wobbly steps last week. At first you would stick your little arms straight out in front of you for balance like a little baby frankenstein. Now you’re blazing through entire rooms of the house. You’re saying Da Da and Mum Ma regularly (that does not get old!). You’re really interested in food now too, some of your favorites: toast, avocado, broccoli, apples, sweet potato, and recently cupcakes.

I feel like this should be a thank you note to you as well. You’re an amazing little girl who has given us both more love and purpose than we ever thought possible. Lately we’ve been waking up to the sound of you giggling in your crib when you wake up in the morning. I don’t know what you’re always laughing at, but it warms my heart to know you’re a happy girl!

Happy Birthday Sweet Olive!

Love,

Mama & Papa
